What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
A colonic is a safe, effective method for cleansing the colon of waste matter, impacted faeces, mucous, yeast and anaerobic bacteria, (so-called 'bad' bacteria) through repeated gentle flushing.
Why is it important?
The colon is a large organ of elimination, intended to rid the body of harmful wastes and bi-products of metabolism. Waste matter that has remained in the colon for some time poses several problems. First, this matter is quite toxic (poisonous). These poisons re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired or weak. Second, impacted materials impair the colon's ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria produced nutrients. Finally, a build-up of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action resulting in constipation.
A colonic helps to rid the body of this built up waste, improves bowel function and nutrient absorption, and reduces toxicity. The end result is a digestive system that is working more efficiently and is better able to deal with the daily stresses we place on our bodies.
Although proper diet and exercise are the best ways to remain healthy and happy, years of neglect, weakened and coated colon walls may reduce the efficacy of our efforts. A colonic will rejuvenate the colon walls and improve the outcome of any further treatment or lifestyle change that you undertake.

What can I expect from treatment?
Benefits are highly variable from one individual to the next. Many experience increased energy, improved sleep patterns and elevated mood as a result of a course of treatment.
Colonic Hydrotherapy is effective in the resolution of chronic constipation. With repeated treatment and changes to negative habits, regularity can be restored over the long term, allowing for more frequent and less strained bowel movements. Unlike laxatives that may leech the body of important minerals and, over the long term, contribute to the problem by creating dependency, a colonic strengthens the natural rhythmic actions of the colon muscles, restores hydration and prompts the formation of routine.
Other conditions that may improve include:
- Acne and other skin conditions
- Candidiasis or Chronic Yeast Infection of the bowel
- Insomnia and restlessness
Will I feel any pain during the colonic?
A large majority of clients enjoy having a colonic and experience an increased sense of well being afterwards.
However, having your first colonic can be a daunting experience and any resulting tension may cause minor discomfort during the session. As a trained therapist, I will try my hardest to alleviate and minimize any discomfort. Additionally, large amounts of trapped gas can lead to cramping, so it is important that you follow the guidelines for preparation as outlined. These will be provided upon booking an appointment.
Is there any preparation?
In addition to some dietary recommendations 24-48 hours prior to treatment, there are some guidelines to help maximize the session.
-If you suffer from chronic constipation, a warm castor oil pack applied to the abdomen the night before may enhance the passage of waste during the treatment
-Any bowel movements during the day leading up to the treatment will be beneficial as they will permit a more effective cleansing
-Exercise on the day of the treatment is encouraged as it helps to massage the colon and encourage passage of wastes. This will enhance treatment success
How many colonics will I need?
No one treatment of any kind can cure all health problems. Although the initial colonic may alleviate some of your immediate concerns, subsequent treatments are usually needed to help you meet your objectives and create long term lasting results. As you allow the cleansing process to occur, you will enable your colon to more efficiently release the waste material thus bringing you back to a state of good bowel function and health. It is usually recommended that you have a colonic every 3-4 months to maintain colon health.
